Petition: Government Offshoring Policies

We the undersigned support the following legislative positions, and urge our represenatives to enact them into law:

Against Government Support of Offshoring

(1) That government shall not use our tax dollars to move jobs to other countries. And that government contractors be prohibited from performing overseas any work paid for by our tax dollars.

(2) That government subsidies and grants for economic development and research, tax abatement, and other forms of public support be conditional on local job creation. That no government subsidies be given to businesses that transfer jobs to other nations.

(3) That professional licensing requirements be extended to cover all public and private work performed offshore. If an occupation or task requires a professional license when done in the U.S, then an equivalent license shall be required for the work to be done in another country.

(4) That government shall not allow manipulation of the visa system to facilitate moving jobs to other countries by using temporary visas for the specific purpose of preparing managerial personnel to manage work that is to be offshored.

(5) That government support the aspirations of people around the world for basic human rights and decent living standards. In particular, this means enacting policies and international trade agreements that promote worker and human rights, require fair pay and decent working conditions, protect the environment that we all share, and ensure peoples' freedom to form and join independent trade unions.

Preventing Threats to Personal Security

(6) That all transmission of personally identifiable information about American citizens to other nations is prohibited, except to those nations that Congress has identified as having a level of legal privacy protection and enforcement that is equal to, or stronger than, that provided by current U.S. law.

(7) That transmission of personally identifiable information about American citizens outside of the U.S. requires notice to, and prior written consent of, the individual.
